[Note: This story was a request, in the story Queens are Wild Part 3, Rayne comments that she once got hypnotized in a library. That story was just invented for that scene, but someone asked if I could flesh it out... so here it is!]
It was a rather quiet Tuesday night, well past midnight, and the bulk of the students were asleep. But Rayne didn’t have class the next day, and couldn’t sleep so she went to the library to do a little research. The library was open to the student body 24 hours a day, their only request was to fill out the sign in sheet so they could keep track of who had been there. But when she arrived she was surprised to see a name still on the sheet. “Huh.” she thought. "Oh well, won’t be too much trouble.” She signed the sheet and made her way inside.
The library, being in one of the older parts of the school, wasn’t very well lit during the day. Which meant at night you practically needed a flashlight to read the books on the shelf. Fortunately, she knew exactly what book she was looking for. She made her way directly to the Psychology section to find the book she had been studying, one by a famous hypnotist. But to her surprise when she arrived at the section there was a young man sitting at the study table with a light on, reading the book she had intended to grab. “Oh!” she said, a bit startled.
Of course hearing a female voice in an otherwise abandoned library had the reaction you’d expect from the young man, who jumped out of his chair and nearly screamed in surprise.
“Easy!” Rayne laughed as she helped the young man regain his composure. “I don’t bite.” she reassured him.
“Sorry!” the young man said, adjusting his glasses and hair. “I…I didn’t hear you come in.”
“I noticed.” she said with a warm smile. “Sorry about that. I knew you were here when I saw your name on the sheet. It’s Luke, right?” she asked, trying to be friendly. The young man, Luke, wasn’t unattractive but he wasn’t exactly her type either. Short, curled reddish brown hair, glasses, a wide build, and otherwise relatively unremarkable.
Luke took a breath and nodded. “Yeah, Luke. Pleased to meet you, miss…umm?” he stumbled.
“Rayne.” she finished with a smile.
“Rayne. Lovely to meet you. What brings you to the library this late at night?” he inquired, trying to make small talk.
“Actually…” she started, sitting down across the table from him. “I’ve been studying hypnosis and I was going to look up some references in the book you're reading.”
“Oh, really?” he said, straightening in his chair and looking a bit more excited. “Are you a psychology major?”
“No, sorry, Nursing student. Hypnosis is a…umm…hobby of interest for me, you might say.” she admitted with a slight blush that she hoped couldn’t be seen with the lighting in the room.
“Oh, well that's interesting!” he said, seeming slightly deflated. “I’m researching for a paper on instant hypnotic inductions. Are you familiar with them?” he asked, genuinely curious.
“A little bit. I’ve done them a few times but always with some prep in advance. I don’t really think they would work on a person without them being at least aware that something was going to happen.” she said with a shrug.
“Really?” Luke said with a smile as he adjusted in his seat to get a better look at the young woman. She wasn’t really his type, but she was stunning nonetheless. Short, stocky in a strong, healthy kind of way. Her hair seemed dyed but he couldn’t be sure in the dim lighting. She was, in his opinion, very cute. “In the book it says that if it’s done right then the person doesn’t have to see it coming at all. If it's done right.”
“Eh…” Rayne brushed him off a bit. “I assume it could work with the right person. Someone that is, you know, very submissive, very suggestible, ready to just drop like a light.” she said, snapping her fingers and watching the young man for a response…
To her disappointment he simply nodded, not really noticing her attempt at an instant induction. “I don’t know, I’ve never really tried it on anyone. But the idea is pretty interesting. The idea that you could just surprise someone and give them a suggestion and they couldn’t really resist at all. It’s kind of…fascinating, don’t you think?”
Rayne thought back to all the times she’d hypnotized her friends, sometimes with triggers and sometimes with some very basic prep. The look in their eyes as they fluttered closed and just dropped was very…stimulating to imagine. “Oh, I’m sure it’s a rush.” she said with a smile. “But not really one that I think you should try any time soon.”
Luke nodded, looking disappointed, and shrugged. “You’re probably right. Since we were here to study the same book, did you want to share for a while?” he asked politely.
Rayne nodded in agreement and for the next hour and a half the two went through the chapter on hypnosis, discussing its history, different techniques, and different ways to do inductions. It was rather pleasant, but Rayne still couldn’t help but be disappointed in the way her evening had gone. She had hoped to be here alone and instead spent it with a rather awkward nerd.
Somewhere around two am Luke looked at his watch and yawned. “It’s getting late, I should probably pack it in for the night.”
Rayne wasn’t exactly sleepy, but her brain was definitely done studying for the day. “Yeah, me too.” She said as she stood up and stretched.
Luke stood up to put the book back on the shelf and arched his back in a stretch as well. “It was really nice meeting you Rayne, I had a very pleasant time discussing hypnosis with you.” He said with an awkward smile.
“I'm sure you did.” Rayne thought to herself. “I had a good time too, thank you.” she said, choosing to be more polite than rude. This time.
“Can I…walk you to the door?” Luke asked nervously.
Rayne sighed. “Well, it is the only way out…and we both have to go that way, so…I guess…” She relented as her patience began to wear thin. She couldn’t help but notice that he was looking at her a bit differently, too, and seemed to be getting more nervous. “Oh crap.” she thought to herself. “I hope this dork doesn’t think this was a date or something.” She let out a soft sigh as she rolled her eyes, thankful once again for the dim light, and started towards the door. Not as slowly as she could have but not outrunning her escort either.
As they arrived at the door she paused for a moment and looked at Luke. With as much politeness as she could manage, she said good night and turned to leave. At least that was her intention. Instead she felt Luke grab her shoulder and quickly spin her around. The force of the spin was enough to throw her off balance but Luke steadied her easily. “What the…” she thought as she readied herself to punch the would-be-Romeo for his efforts. But as soon as her vision cleared she saw his hand directly in front of her face and heard a loud snap. The snap and the closeness to her face that it happened made her jerk her head back in surprise. All of her thoughts dumped from her mind as she rapidly tried to figure out what had just happened. But before she could she heard a single word spoken like a command. A word that slipped directly into her subconscious mind without effort.
“Pause!” Luke said with all the confidence he could muster, despite the small tremble in his voice. He watched Rayne closely, hoping that she didn’t punch him or something, but then he realized she was just…standing there. Not moving at all. “Rayne,” he asked with a curious smile, “can you hear me?”
Rayne didn’t respond in the slightest. She was barely breathing, and her blinks were very slow and irregular. She was just standing there, rigid and still, her head pulled back in surprise with a look of annoyance and confusion on her face. But there was no movement. As he looked into her eyes he could see them slowly dilating just a bit more than they already were in the darkened library.
He smiled and took a step to the side, noticing that her eyes tried to follow him for a moment before shifting straight ahead where they had been before. “You’re in a trance now, Rayne.” he said slowly, waving his hand up and down in front of Rayne’s eyes.
Somewhere deep inside her mind Rayne responded with a soft, gentle “yes,” but no sound came from her mouth. She just stood there, staring where Luke had been. Not moving, not really thinking. She could feel him slide his hand along her back, along her arm and shoulder. She felt him moving up behind her, whispering into her ear. Something soft, something slow and secret. But her conscious mind was asleep, unaware. Not paying attention at all.
At one point she heard him ask “do you understand Rayne? If you do…blink once for me, now.” Without any kind of realization or thought, Rayne’s eyes slowly closed and reopened one time. Luke smiled. “I can’t believe that worked!” he whispered to himself.
He looked around the library suspiciously, as if he expected to see someone else there despite it being after two in the morning and the building being completely abandoned. But once he confirmed that he was, in fact, alone, his expression turned to one of confidence. Slowly, he leaned in with a smile and pressed his lips to Rayne’s.
Rayne felt a shiver go down her body. A warm feeling that spread through her chest and made her slow, steady breathing increase ever so slightly. But she remained still. There was no movement at all. Not even a response to the kiss. Her blank eyes just stared ahead as Luke pulled back with a smile and a hint of a blush and then slipped out of sight, the small snap of his fingers echoing as he exited the room.
And there Rayen stood, blank and empty, all except for a slow countdown that had begun in her mind. “100…99….98….” she counted to herself, letting the numbers fall one by one as she breathed slowly and gently. Finally, a few minutes later, the numbers had almost reached their stopping point. “4…3…2…1…” And with that, Rayne’s eyes closed and she took in a deep breath and relaxed, just before opening her eyes and looking around in confusion. “Did that little dork…oh I’m gonna kick his ass.” she said with a look of pleasant malice on her face as she turned and left the library.
She left the library building and slipped out into the cool night air. It was nice to be out at night, when the air was crisper, cleaner, and everything felt more peaceful. Of course focusing on the night air kept her from realizing that she had passed her own dorm and was, in fact, moving towards the boys dormitory. She didn’t find it odd that the door, usually locked with a security key, had a rock propping it open.
She entered and moved directly to the elevator and pushed the button for the third floor. Even after the elevator doors closed she just stood there calmly, watching the numbers rise higher and higher until the door dinged and opened. She stepped out and looked at the numbers, but she wasn’t sure why. Rooms 301 to 350 were to the left, and rooms 351 to 399 were to the right. Without thinking she moved to the right and began to walk down the hallway. There was a single door that wasn’t fully closed, one that she opened as soon as she reached it.
Inside, Luke was standing in the middle of the room nervously, almost as if he was waiting for something. “I…see you found the place.” he said with a noticeable tremor in his voice.
“You kissed me…” Rayne said as the annoyance and anger drained from her face while she stood in the room. Her eyes took on a slightly glazed look.
“I…I did…” Luke admitted, watching her curiously.
“I’m going…to kick…your ass…” Rayne said as she closed the door behind her and started to move towards Luke. But every step made her face relax and her eyes glaze over just a bit more.
“Is that so?” Luke asked, relaxing as he noticed her slipping into a trance like he had instructed.
“Yes…” Rayne said as she reached down and pulled her shirt up and over her head. “In the morning.” She pushed him back onto his bunk and then kissed him, pushing him against the mattress and straddling him.
Luke smiled and let his hands slide over her body. “Oh, I don’t think you’ll remember much in the morning. Not entirely sure. But it’s just a guess.” He was cut off by Rayne’s bra dropping onto his face while a very passive and clearly hypnotized Rayne whispered into his ear.
“Then you better make it memorable.” And with that, her eyes went completely blank as she slipped back into a trance, ready to do whatever she was told. Fortunately for her, Luke had a few ideas in mind.
The End… for now…
Curious what might have happened had Luke given Rayne a very different kind of suggestion? Say instead of the word ‘Pause’ if he had used the word ‘Seduce’ instead? You can find that alternate ending for this chapter here: Rayne’s Library Encounter - N.C.U. - Alt. Ending
