Description: Klaire drags Josh to her dorm to help her relax. Only to find Rayne and Laura there as well. Oh well, what's two more hypnotized women hmm?

Laura rubbed her eyes tiredly as Rayne stretched. “Why does U.S. history have to be so messy?” Laura said with a groan as she stood up and arched her back. “And why does this week feel like it’s been three weeks jammed into two days?”
Rayne gave a chuckle and slowly twisted her torso to try and stretch it out. “I have no idea, but I couldn’t agree with you more.” They both sounded genuinely tired, and given that it was nearly midnight they had good reason to be.
There was a gentle knock at the door. Soft and rhythmic, but playful, like it was trying to play a tune. “What now…” Rayne muttered, moving towards the door with a noticeable look of frustration. Upon opening the door she found Klaire, looking equally exhausted. Behind her stood a tall, stocky man with short red hair.
“Hey Klaire.” Laura managed tiredly from the chair that was sitting across the room. “This your boyfriend?”

Klaire rolled her eyes and groaned. “This is Josh, and no he’s not my boyfriend.” she said with a huff as she pushed past Rayne and flopped onto her bed. As she did she patted Laura on the shoulder. “Josh, Laura.” she said before waving her hand over at Rayne. “You know Rayne.”
Rayne blushed but covered it quickly with a look of annoyance. She remembered that somehow she had ended up being brought home by Josh, completely passed out. She still didn’t remember exactly how it happened. Just that multiple people confirmed she had been acting strangely in the cafeteria and then, more or less, fainted on Josh. It was annoying, embarrassing, and somehow…exciting?
Josh gave a soft little chuckle at how rude Klaire was before looking between Rayne and  Laura. “I’m Josh, would it be ok if I came in?” he asked warmly.
“Sure, whatever.” Rayne said, walking away from the open door and plopping down on her bed.
“Thanks?” Josh said with a bit of an eye roll before he walked in and closed the door.         “He’s actually here for a reason.” Klaire said, sighing tiredly. “I asked him if he could do a little relaxation thing for us.”
“Relaxation thing?” Rayne asked in a skeptical tone.
“I’m a certified hypnotist.” Josh explained. “I was going to walk you ladies through a brief little relaxation exercise for a bit. It won’t take very long, I promise.”
“Hypnotist?” Laura said, perking up briefly as she looked at Klaire.
        “Shut up!” Klaire whispered aggressively.
Rayne just rolled her eyes and sighed. “I’d rather not, no offen…”
She was cut off by Klaire as she spoke up. “Ten minutes. For me, ok?” Klaire said forcefully.
“I’d kind of like to see what he has in mind, too…” Laura said, admittedly curious.
Rayne sighed as her shoulders slumped in defeat. “Fine.” she huffed. “But just do them, ok?”
Josh laughed as he dropped his backpack on the table and started to rummage through it. “I’m not planning on doing anyone…at least not for a few more hours.” he said with a slight grin, which made Klaire blush. “I’m just going to do a small relaxation technique, that's all. Now, get comfortable please ladies.”
Laura got up off of the chair and moved onto the bed with Klaire, both with their feet on the floor. The bed was pushed away from the wall, which would make leaning back against it just a bit too uncomfortable. Rayne didn’t move, she just sat on her bed looking annoyed.
“I am going to need to stand more or less right where you are sitting.” Josh said as politely and innocently as he could muster. He had a plan after all, and he didn’t want Rayne’s stubbornness to screw it up.
“Come sit with us Rayne, it will just be a few minutes.” Laura said, fighting back a yawn.
“I don’t want to.” Rayne said, giving Laura a sharp, almost threatening glare.
“If you come sit with us and actually stop being cranky, I’ll let you have the dorm to yourself for the next 48 hours.” Klaire offered, trying not to give Josh a knowing smile.
Rayne, however, instantly glanced at Josh and made a disgusted face as she got up off the bed. “At least I’ll have some quiet!” she said as she plopped down next to Klaire.
Josh let Rayne pass without saying a word and moved one of the small card tables in the dorm between the two beds. He then set an electric candle on the table and turned it on. The artificial flicker was slow and steady, switching between several pre-programmed LED patterns that gave it a rough approximation of what a candle might actually look like.
“What, we don’t even get a real candle?” Rayne asked with a smirk.
“You can’t have an open flame in the dorm rooms, you know that.” Josh countered as he flipped off the light and stood on the opposite side of the fake candle.
“That and he lit his hair on fire three times… in the same day.” Klaire said with a smirk.
“Completely irrelevant to this situation!” Josh countered as quickly as he could while the others let out a few chuckles. It was the closest any of them had gotten to relaxing in a while.
“How exactly did you do that?” Laura asked with a grin.
“I’ll tell you when we're done here, ok?” Josh replied, trying to keep the girls on task.
“Deal!” Laura replied with a devious smile.
“Alright, now…take a deep breath in…and just let it out slowly. Gently. And focus on the fake little LED candle on the table.” he said, letting his voice drop a bit into a hypnotic tone and motioning towards the candle.
The girls laughed softly and then instinctively focused on the candle in front of them. Even Rayne, who didn’t realize she had done so.
“Just allow the candle to fill your vision, notice how it flickers, back and forth slowly. Predictably. I know it’s just a fake candle, with a fake flicker…but as you focus on the candle, you can imagine a real candle in your mind. A real flame flickering before your eyes. The warm glow of the flame, radiating out through the room. Lighting up all the corners of the room as it dances slowly, rhythmically, in front of your eyes. You can feel the warmth, rolling over your skin, over your face, feeling how relaxing it is for you to just… breathe… and follow the flame… and just feel your body, start to relax. You’ve had a long day…a long…hard day…but you are here…with your friends. Safe and calm, right where you belong. It’s ok to just…relax here. You're safe. Just feel your muscles loosen, and relax. Feel your shoulders just slump down, ever so slightly. And feel the world around you just start to fade away. Every breath, just helps you to slip down, deeper and deeper, down to a nnice, relaxing, restful sleep. It’s ok to just…drift away… down…down…down….to sleep.”
At the word ‘sleep’ Klaire’s eyes closed and she leaned back slowly, deliberately, onto her bed and just laid there, breathing slowly. Meanwhile, Laura’s eyes fluttered as her head fell just a bit further forward, until finally she let it fall forward to her chest, her curly hair bouncing as she let out a soft sigh. .
Rayne’s eyes looked unfocused and glassy as she stared at the candle on the table in front of her. Josh could tell she was struggling, that she wanted to resist. But yet she was still locked in and focused. She couldn’t break free, but she refused to let go.
With a soft smile he made his way around the room, to lean behind Laura and whisper into Klaire’s ear. “Klaire, I know you can hear me, no need to respond.” he said, slowly, sliding his hand down and taking Klaire’s hand into his. “I want you to just imagine the candle in your mind. I want you to see it flickering and floating in your mind, deeply, gently, slowly…and I want you to just…let the room around you fade away…until I give you a kiss. When I do, you’ll stay hypnotized but you’ll open your eyes and follow my suggestions. Until then, you’ll be completely unaware of everything in the room. If you understand, give my hand a gentle, little squeeze.” he whispered softly.
He had to bite his tongue to prevent from letting out a satisfied chuckle as he felt Klaire’s hand squeeze his. “Good girl.”  he whispered softly into her ear. “Now focus on the candle in your mind and sink deeper for me.” He was rewarded with a soft sigh and slight falling of Klaire’s chest and she relaxed even more into the trance.
Slowly, careful not to wake the others, he moved next to Laura. “Laura,” he whispered softly into her ear, “in a moment I’m going to tilt you back, and when I do you're going to let the image of the candle in your mind become so vivid and relaxing that you’ll sink even more deeply into trance. Unaware of what's going on in the room around you, unaware of everything until I kiss you. You’d like that wouldn’t you Laura?” he asked a little less worried about an audible reply.
“Yess…” came the whispered, soft reply from Laura.
“Very good, and when I kiss you, you’ll stay deeply hypnotized, but open your eyes and do as you're told. Completely compliant and obedient, understand Laura?” he asked, sliding his hand along the blonde’s back in a slow massage.
Another soft “yes” escaped her lips. With that, Josh placed a single finger on her forehead and tilted her head back slowly as he whispered “sleep” into her ear. As he laid her back he felt her body go completely limp in his hands, and she almost flopped down onto the bed, making Klaire’s body jiggle slowly beside her. Neither woman gave the slightest hint of waking up.
Josh’s gaze turned to a glare as he turned to Rayne. Her face was still soft and relaxed, gentler than he’d seen her look before. Her eyes were still focused on the flame, but her lips were twitching a bit as if she was trying to struggle, if only in her mind. He took a deep breath and moved around the table with the candle and knelt down next to Rayne and began to whisper.“It’s ok now Rayne, your friends, your roommate, they are both asleep. Unaware. They won’t hear anything you say, won’t know anything you do. That makes you feel a bit better now, doesn’t it?”
Rayne’s lips quivered as if she was about to reply, but instead of saying something she instead closed her mouth, swallowed, and gave a very slow gentle nod while her eyes followed the flame exactly.
“I’d like to ask you a question, Rayne. A serious question. And I want you to answer honestly to me, I won’t be mad, I just want to know the truth. You can tell me the truth, can’t you Rayne?”
He waited for another slow gentle nod before continuing to whisper. “You can talk so easily now, gently and quietly, but I want to know…why do you seem to dislike me so much? What did I do to you to make you so…aggressive?”
Rayne seemed to stir a bit and for a moment Josh was worried that she might be about to wake up, but then she let out a long sigh and relaxed before answering. “Don’t dislike you.” she whispered softly. “Jealous…embarrassed…” she concluded.
Josh was surprised by this response and took a moment to formulate his reply before asking. “Why are you embarrassed Rayne? Please tell me honestly, I want to help smooth things out between us.” His tone was sincere and soothing. Like a teacher trying to find out why a student put glue in the goldfish bowl.
“You… carried me home.” she whispered. “I was passed out, asleep, you carried me home. Klaire saw me helpless. You saw me helpless. I was helpless. And that's embarrassing.”
Josh slowly started to rub his hand soothingly along Rayne’s shoulder. “I didn’t do that to embarrass you,” he admitted. “I was trying to make sure you got home safe. I’m sorry if it embarrassed you, alright?” he asked softly.
Rayne nodded slowly. “Always have to be tough…be strong…being vulnerable…weak… is embarrassing…exciting…arousing.”  she admitted with just the slightest tremor in her voice.
Josh gave a small smile. He had kind of guessed that Rayne’s tough outer shell was just a facade that was there for her protection, it was nice to finally have it confirmed. “And why are you jealous? And what are you jealous of?” he asked, still rubbing his hand up and down her arm slowly. “You can tell me. I promise it will be just between us, ok?”
Rayne nodded as her shoulders slumped a bit more, almost like she felt defeated. “Klaire…You…” she whispered.
“You’re jealous of me and Klaire?” he asked, confused. “Why?”
The flush in Rayne’s cheeks was visible even in the artificial candlelight. “Crush…on Klaire. Want to control her like you do, tame her like you do, put her in…her place.” Rayne whispered a bit.
Josh smiled softly and whispered. “I’m sorry, I didn’t know you had a crush on her.”
He was about to continue when Rayne spoke up again. “Crush on you…too.”
This completely took Josh by surprise. “Seriously?” he asked in disbelief.
“Mmhmmm” came the soft reply from Rayne. “You put her in her place. She’s such a bitch…but you tame her…you turn her off…you make her peaceful. The idea of you doing that…doing that to me…is…exciting.” Rayne’s face was beet red, even though her eyes were still completely focused on the flickering candle.
Josh sat there, a bit dumbfounded. “Huh.” was his only response, before he leaned in and whispered into Rayne’s ear. “Do you want me to hypnotize you…to control you like I do with Klaire.” he said, cupping her face softly.
Rayne’s eyes started to flutter a bit as she whispered “...yessss…” and felt herself simply relax into his touch.
Josh smiled and tilted Rayne’s face to his and looked deep into her eyes. “I’m going to put you into a deep, deep sleep now Rayne, and you will stay asleep until I squeeze your hand, understand?” He had to change the wake up because he had an idea he was dying to try. And now was a great opportunity.
Rayne stared into Josh’s eyes with more intensity then she had been staring into the candle. “Yessss…” she whispered.
“Good girl.” he said with an almost gloating smile. “And when I squeeze your hand you will stay deeply hypnotized, but open your eyes and obey…just like your friends. Isn’t that right Rayne?” His voice and posture was becoming a bit more aggressive and dominant, figuring if Rayne wanted to be controlled, well, he would control her.
She swallowed nervously and nodded, but never broke eye contact with him.
“Good girl.” he said, again with a smile. “Then you will sleep.“ he leaned in a bit closer to her,“ In three…” he continued to lean in even closer, “two…” his nose touched hers, still staring into her eyes, “one.” He tilted his head and could feel her face tremble with nervousness and excitement as he finally said “Sleep.” and pressed his lips to hers in a deep kiss, cupping her face softly as he pulled it close to his.
Rayne’s eyes flew open for a brief moment before they  rolled back into her head and she completely went limp, held up only by Josh's hands and lost in the kiss she was too deep to respond to.
Josh let the kiss linger for a few moments before pulling back and letting go of Rayne’s face. The young woman simply sagged back and fell onto her bed with a sigh, her left arm draped across her torso. Next to her was her sleeping roommate Klaire, looking completely peaceful and calm, and next to her was Laura, with her blonde curly hair framing her face softly.
Josh took a moment to admire his handy work. “Well, this couldn’t have gone better.” he thought to himself as he chuckled softly. As he did, he began to look over the girls with much more…selfish intentions. “Now…” he thought to himself “What do I want…the most. What would help me relax?”  As he thought about the question, an idea began to form in his mind. “Perfect.” he whispered to himself as he began to move towards the sleeping girls.

To Be Continued.

Bonus Stupidity:
The story referenced in this chapter about Josh lighting his hair on fire three times in the same day is a true story. When I first moved into my house I had a small table in my living room. I would back it up against the couch and sit on the floor and use it as a back brace while I played video games, specifically in this story Megaman X. I know that game so well I can play it without paying attention. My wife calls it digital meditation. That is to say except for one part… where I always screw up a jump, and since I'm not paying attention I screw it up every single time.
I was having friends over for a party that day, the real life version of Klaire was first to arrive and I had lit a candle on the end table like I always did. We were talking and I was mindlessly playing the game until I got to the jump and of course screwed it up. In playful frustration I put my head back and groaned… but I put my head back directly into the candle. My hair didn’t so much catch fire as it did singe. I moved and put my hair out very quickly. By now ‘Klaire’ was dying laughing. At this moment the real life version of Laura had arrived and ‘Klaire’ went and opened the door laughing. I didn’t bother to get up. I was playing a game damn it and there are priorities. ‘Laura’ was trying to ask ‘Klaire’ what was so funny but she was laughing so hard she couldn’t really say, so I explained what had happened, and then demonstrated… by putting my head back again… and again directly into the candle flame… again… lighting my hair on fire.
So now we have ‘Laura’ and ‘Klaire’ dying laughing at this, neither one can really breathe, and then real life ‘Eve’ who was my roommate at the time (and now my wife) came home and you have two of our friends  just like doubled over laughing. And she asks of course the obvious question “what’s going on?”  So I explained the situation… and demonstrated… again… tilting my head back into the candle a third time, and lighting my hair on fire for the third time in the same day.
This was 20 years ago, my wife still won’t let me use candles in the house.
